Thoughts!

Bogle Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2020:

Solo Tasting:

Prior to eating we drank a glass and I was able to taste a lot of those strong fruity flavors coming out, however they were not overly sweet and tasted of berry that was pleasant and light enough to not over power my taste buds. The smell matched this as I was noticing hints of cherries and red berries when taking a whiff of the glass.

Paring notes:

After eating some the steak we paired with the wine I was able to taste more of the bolder body flavors of the wine and less of the fruity side as previously mentioned. The steak complemented the full body of the wine bringing some of the deeper flavors of the grape and some more acidity into the mix of taste. After indulging in some of the roasted potatoes and then taking a few sips of the wine I was able to taste a mixture of the boldness of the full body of the wine and the fruity flavors that were tasted when drank solo. The 50/50 mixture of these flavors coming out really made me enjoy the wine more then just pairing with the steak or drinking the wine solo. When drank in succession with the roasted asparagus the flavor of the wine completely changed from hints of berries to a more earth tone of that I wasn't exactly able to put my finger on that also had hints of acidity to it but less than the steak, this pairing was my least favorite due the total change in taste from the initial part and the removal of those fruitier flavors.

Debonair Sauvignon Blanc 2021:

Solo Tasting :

After first sniff, I noticed a lot of light fruity flavors, as well as a small hint of mint in the scent of the glass. After tasting I noticed hints of light sweeter fruits like peach which the bottle notes hints of passionfruit and peach. I enjoyed this wines light yet solid taste that reminded me of frolicking in a field. It would be a very good wine to take on a picnic.

Pairing notes:

When paired with the steak the grape of the wine was overpowered by the steak and all you could get from tasting was the floral fruity flavors of the wine that were left over due to the steaks bold and peppery notes. Following this, when paired with the potatoes the wine was brought into a more well rounded taste of its grape and fruit flavors that worked in cohesion very well with the potatoes starchiness and spices. When paired withe the roasted asparagus the wine again had more earthy tones similar to the scents of soil or puddled rain water and was definitely more acidic than previously tasted solo or paired with the other foods. My favorite pairing with this wine was again the potatoes which where able to naturally bring out the total body of the wine and allow me to taste all of its notes without being over expressed.

Gnarly Head Old World Vine Zinfandel 2021:

Solo Tasting:

Upon first sniff, I noticed a definitive hint of what I can only describe as fresh paint not to the point where I was able to smell the grape but it was the most prevalent aroma and the hint of grape jelly followed shortly after. After tasting I was able to taste hints of something similar to a white rum and there were thoughts of oak that followed after that once I swallowed.

Pairing Notes:

When paired with the steak I really enjoyed how well the rum flavors of the wine and the spices of the steak complemented each other. Charlotte pointed out a hint of velvet and while I was drinking the wine I looked for a dessert red velvet cake flavor and that really made the wine pop after chewing through the steak bringing out almost a sweet treat after dinner type of feeling which I loved. In my opinion this was the best pairing in the whole tasting. When paired with the roasted potatoes I felt the two items did not cohesively complement each other at all. I felt as though the wine overpowered the potatoes totally and the white rum flavors did not mix well with the food at all. When paired with the roasted asparagus yet again it was bringing out the more earthy tones of the wine with some flavors of vanilla and berries but with this one I was not able to taste the white rum or velvet chocolate at all.
